What We Do

In neighborhoods where The Goldenberg Group builds, the Foundation partners with local schools to enrich the environments and programs they provide for the children of Philadelphia.

We work in collaboration with school leadership, parents, students, and community stakeholders to bolster existing programs, as well as to spearhead new initiatives, both academic and extracurricular in nature.

We bring creativity and innovation to every school with which we work. Absent of rigidity and programmatic rules, our flexible model enables us to meet schools where they are providing uniquely tailored support to each school community.

History

Our school partnership program began in 2011 with E.M. Stanton School, located at 17th & Christian Street. Slated for closure in 2011, the community mobilized to "Save Stanton". As The Goldenberg Group was developing Carpenter Square condominiums across the way, the Foundation collaborated with Stanton's School Advisory Council, as well as local businesses and associations, to organize over 75 volunteers and over 350 hours to improve the school. Projects included cleaning and painting classrooms and cafeteria, purchasing school supplies for students whose families could not afford them, and adding fresh greenery all around the main office. Today, and through many additional collaborations later, Stanton continues to stand strong as a stellar public school option for South Philadelphians.

This first school partnership with the E.M. Stanton School opened the door for additional school partnerships by identifying an underserved community. The success of our school partnerships can be attributed to the fact that when we enter into a new relationship we don't dictate what schools need, we listen and collaborate to deliver what schools want, which has allowed us to forge positive relationships with local schools.
